Kunstraum München

In 1974, the Frankfurt Kunstverein (Art Society) hosted the first exhibition of Nazi art after 1945,  “Kunst im 3. Reich. Dokumente der Unterwerfung” (Art in the Third Reich: Documents of Subjugation). It can be considered the prototype of a politically engaged exhibition of the 1970s. Fifty years later, a display by Paula Gehrmann – in a vibrant and multifaceted archive – revisits the exhibition and the art and contemporary historical contexts and controversies, as controversial then as they are now.
