Riding Hall with Collection of Carriages
The stables were one of the most important representative areas of a castle. In the years 1829-1832, master builder Jean-Baptiste Métivier built the royal palace's stables. They consist of the stable wings for the horses and the 600 square meter riding hall with figurative furnishings by the sculptor Ludwig von Schwanthaler. The Marstall Museum of European rank has an extensive collection of carriages, sleighs, sedan chairs and carrying chairs from the 18th and 19th centuries. Gala crockery and riding accessories illustrate the lavish domestic keeping of horses by the Thurn and Taxis.
Fürstliche Schatzkammer (Princely Treasury)
The Princely Treasury is housed in the north wing of the neoclassical former royal stables. It presents outstanding works of art from the princely collections, which were acquired by the Bavarian National Museum in 1993. High-quality furniture, fine porcelain, valuable snuff boxes, exclusive weapons, and exquisite gold and silver treasures from Europe's leading art workshops transport visitors into the world and the splendor of one of the most important dynasties of European high nobility.
